World Vision, a non-profit advocacy organization devoted to working with children and poverty issues wanted a way to raise awareness of child sex tourism. Their cost effective solution was to place promotional door hangers reminiscent of the typical privacy indicators, but imprinted with "Do Disturb" on hotel doors in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. When tourists investigated this out of the ordinary phrase, they find a message asking them to speak out if they see anything suspicious.
This guerrilla campaign shows that it is still possible to conduct a highly effective and relevant promotional campaign even when your organization needs to make every penny count. A promotional door hanger is remarkably inexpensive to make, but will still reach a large audience if used in the right place.
